This might be the answer for question 1:
Jane is as old as Joan was when Jane was half as old as Joan is now. (Translation...today, Joan is twice as old as Jane) Four years ago, Jane was as old as Joan was when Jane was a third as old as Joan is now (Translation...4 years ago, Joan was 3 times Jane's current age)
After going through some algebra...today, Jane is 12 and Joan is 24 (twice Jane's age). That satisfies the first condition. 4 years ago, Jane was 8, which is one third of Joan's current age of 24. That satisfies condition #2.
Therefore, in 2 years, Jane will be 14.

The answer for question 5 is lead:
Going from rock to cure, the order of the first and third letters (r and c) are reversed. Going from cure to menu, the second and fourth letters (e and u) are reversed. If you repeat the same pattern on the second example, you get lead.

I don't get the word sequence answer, Alyssa, and I don't think you're right on the age one. Here's what I thought:
Jane is the same age as Joan when Jane was half that of Joan today. 4 years ago, Jane is the same age of Joan when Jane was a third that of Joan today. What is Jane's age in 2 years?
Joan is 24. Jane is 18.
Now: Jane is the same age as Joan when Joan was 18, Jane was 12, half that of Joan today. FYA: Jane is the same age as Joan when Joan was 14, Jane was 8, third that of Joan today.
So Jane will be 20 in two years.

He did not put it in the form: The answer to puzzle 1 is 20.
It will not count.
